Places to Visit

  • The Taos Visitor Center is located 5 miles south of the Plaza on Hiway 68

Helpful employees will assist you with planning, directions and current events. Many of the tours and information on places to visit can be found at the Visitor Center. Here are a few:

  • Historical Churches of Taos and Northern New Mexico tour is a self-guided tour
  • Labyrinth tour brochure

  • Taos Pueblo tour

    • 2 miles northeast of the Plaza at the Tewa Pueblo Reservation
    • $18 for admission
    • Every 30 minutes a guide gives a 30 minute tour of the Pueblo, no charge


  • Earth Ships tour

    • Location: 15 miles Northwest from Plaza, near Rio Grande Gorge Bridge
    • There is a Visitor’s Center showing why the area is designated as earth-ships. All buildings are made from recycled material. There is a video and self-guided tour where you can see a house being built.

  • Historic District tour

    • Pick up a walking guide at the Taos Information Center on Paseo de Pueblo Sur or download the app from Apple I-Tunes or Google Play. The focus is on the Plaza and the 6 historic districts that are adjacent to the Plaza.


  • Northern New Mexico Potters Trail

    • Contemporary Clay Artists of Northern New Mexico and Santa Fe
    • Location: Throughout Northern New Mexico


  • Museum tour (Museum Association of  Taos)

    • You can buy a 5 museum pass for $25 from any of the museums or at the Visitor’s Center
    • E.L. Blumenschein Museum, La Hacienda de los Martinez, the Harwood Museum, Millicent Rogers Museum, Taos Art Museum & Fechin House
    • Location: Less than 1 mile from Plaza & throughout town

    • The tour starts at the Taos Visitors Center and/or Historic Taos Plaza, daily
